Un balisong, noto anche come coltello a farfalla, è un tipo di coltello tascabile pieghevole. La sua particolarità è la costruzione, in cui la lama, una volta chiusa, si trova tra due manici. Secondo la versione principale, il coltello a farfalla fu inventato nelle Filippine e il suo nome "balisong" deriva da uno dei villaggi filippini. Tuttavia, coltelli con una struttura simile venivano prodotti in Francia. Questo coltello deve il suo nome colloquiale - coltello a farfalla - alla traiettoria dei manici in apertura, che ricorda il movimento rotatorio delle ali di una farfalla. I balisong divennero molto popolari dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale: i militari americani portarono coltelli esotici dalle Filippine.

I manici del balisong ruotano in direzioni opposte attorno al gambo. Grazie a questo, è possibile eseguire dei trick, chiamati "flipping". Esistono persino gare mondiali di flipping.
