Los cuchillos de KA-BAR están diseñados para durar toda la vida, o incluso más. Popular entre los profesionales militares en EE. UU. que han estado usando los robustos cuchillos desde 1942. La historia del KA-BAR se remonta mucho más allá de 1942. En 1897, 38 hombres formaron la Tidioute Cutlery Company, considerada como la predecesora de KA-BAR. En 1923, la empresa, conocida ahora como Union Cutlery Co., recibió una carta de un cazador. Este fue atacado por un oso y cuando su rifle falló, el cuchillo que había comprado de Union Cutlery le ayudó a matar al oso. La carta en sí ya no era totalmente legible y las únicas letras que sobresalían de la línea «maté a un oso» ('killed a bear') eran «K A» y «B AR». A partir de entonces, la empresa decidió cambiar su nombre a KA-BAR. Uno por uno, son cuchillos extremadamente duraderos.
