L'entreprise Schrade possède une riche histoire, qui remonte à 1892, année où George Schrade, un inventeur anglais, fonda la Schrade Cutlery Company à New York. Schrade fusionna rapidement avec Walden et commença à produire son premier couteau révolutionnaire breveté doté d'un système de déverrouillage automatique de la lame par simple pression sur un bouton : le Switchblade.

Au cours de sa longue histoire, Schrade a produit des couteaux pliants et des couteaux à lame fixe, notamment les gammes emblématiques Old Timer et Unche Henry. En 2004, Taylor Brands LLC acquit les droits de la marque, les brevets et l'ensemble de la propriété intellectuelle. Le nouveau propriétaire décida de délocaliser l'ensemble de la production en Chine. Plus tard, en 2016, Taylor Brands et la marque Schrade furent rachetées par Smith & Wesson. Aujourd'hui, la marque Schrade propose une large gamme de produits, notamment des couteaux pliants et tactiques, des machettes, des outils multifonctions, des couteaux de survie et bien plus encore.
