Wood Jewel Little knife (Pikkupuukko) is a fine piece of handcraft made in the Finnish part of Lapland in a traditional northern Scandinavian way. The blade is 5.7cm (a little over 2 inches) long, very sharp, and is made from Quality High Carbon Steel hardened to HRC 63-65 and tempered to HRC 59 to balance ductility and brittleness. The blade extends with an internal tang secured to the top of the handle with a rivet. The blade is natural unpolished carbon black except for the grind. The handle is made from a combination of curly birch, thin layers of leather and reindeer antler. It has a well designed shape which fits well in the hand and it it is finished off very smoothly without being slippery. The sheath is made from wet-formed cow hide and it has a reindeer leather belt hanger attached to it.

Wood Jewel a été fondée au début des années 80. Le propriétaire et PDG, Kauko Raatiniemi, a commencé à côté de son emploi principal. Il a d'abord fabriqué de grands articles comme des horloges à partir de noeuds de saule. Au début des années 90, Kauko est devenu entrepreneur à temps plein. Le premier employé est arrivé en 1995 et aujourd'hui, l'entreprise emploie environ 20 personnes toute l'année. Les principaux matériaux sont le bouleau bouclé finlandais, la corne de renne et le polywood coloré. Wood Jewel propose plus de 1000 articles différents. Mais les couteaux sont le principal produit. À la fin des années 80, Kauko a fabriqué ses premiers couteaux. Un collectionneur a acheté tous les couteaux. Au début des années 2000, le fils de Kauko, Tuomas Raatiniemi, a recommencé à fabriquer des couteaux. Aujourd'hui, Wood Jewel fabrique environ 50 000 couteaux par an. Ils accordent une grande attention au matériau de la lame, à la forme de la poignée et à la manière dont le couteau s'adapte au fourreau.
