Tous les couteaux Opinel sont équipés du système unique de blocage de lame Viroblock® : le blocage est un manchon avec une entaille située directement à la jonction de la lame et du manche. En position ouverte, l'entaille du manchon est alignée avec le plan de la lame. Pour fixer la lame, il suffit de tourner le manchon. La lame classique d'Opinel présente une forme Yatagan, inspirée du sabre turc traditionnel.

The larger models feature the simple yet effective Virobloc safety twistlock mechanism, which allows the blade to be locked in both the open and the closed positions. This pocket knife is a classic in the true sense of the word. The blade of this knife is made of carbon steel. It is very easy to sharpen and hone to a thin edge, making it razor sharp, yet very strong. Carbon steel is more susceptible to rust than stainless steel and therefore needs to be cleaned properly and kept dry.
