Seriously this lump of oak has some major magnets inside it - 2 whopping ones per knife location so that's 20 in total!! They are large 'rare earth' neodymium magnets and that's essentially what your paying for! Looks simple but there's a lot of high end technology in there to make it happen. You should also note there is a technique to using this block and you slide the knives on and off to remove them from the block (like you would removing them from a slot) - that way the magnetic force is broken gently.
