Das Unternehmen Schrade blickt auf eine reiche Geschichte zurück, die bis ins Jahr 1892 zurückreicht, als der englische Erfinder George Schrade die Schrade Cutlery Company in New York gründete. Schrade fusionierte bald mit Walden und begann mit der Produktion seines ersten patentierten, revolutionären Messers mit automatischer Klingenentriegelung per Knopfdruck – dem Switchblade.

Im Laufe seiner langen Geschichte produzierte Schrade Klappmesser und Messer mit feststehender Klinge, darunter die legendären Linien Old Timer und Unche Henry. Im Jahr 2004 erwarb Taylor Brands LLC die Rechte an der Marke, den Patenten und dem gesamten geistigen Eigentum. Der neue Eigentümer beschloss, die gesamte Produktion nach China zu verlagern. Später, im Jahr 2016, wurde Taylor Brands zusammen mit der Marke Schrade von Smith & Wesson übernommen. Heute produziert die Marke Schrade eine breite Produktpalette, darunter Klapp- und Einsatzmesser, Macheten, Multifunktionswerkzeuge, Survivalmesser und vieles mehr.
