Farbwechselndes Paracord sowie fluoreszierendes Paracord werden häufig im Tourismus eingesetzt. Der Farbwechseleffekt entsteht durch eine spezielle Webart und die Kombination mehrfarbiger Fäden im Geflecht. Bei wechselndem Blickwinkel oder Lichteinfall „schimmert“ das Paracord optisch und simuliert einen Farbwechsel. Dies ist keine chemische Reaktion, sondern eine optische Täuschung.

Fluoreszierendes (oder im Dunkeln leuchtendes) Paracord enthält Leuchtpigmente, die Licht speichern und im Dunkeln langsam wieder abgeben, wodurch ein sanftes Leuchten entsteht. Üblicherweise ist ein leuchtender Faden in die Außenhülle des Paracords eingewebt, manchmal besteht aber auch die gesamte Hülle aus fluoreszierenden Fäden.

Sowohl farbwechselndes als auch im Dunkeln leuchtendes Paracord werden zur Markierung von Ausrüstung und anderen Gegenständen, zur Begrenzungsmarkierung, zur Herstellung von Signalarmbändern und anderen Markierungen zur schnellen Identifizierung verwendet.
