With the introduction of the KA-BAR Becker Tac Tool, there is finally a tool-knife designed for the needs of the Tactical Officer. The Tac Tool was developed in close consultation with John Benner, 20-year field commander of the Hamilton County Ohio Police Association SWAT Team, and President and Chief Instructor of the Tactical Defense Institute. Tac Tool's smash, bach, pry, hammer and cut. When you leave the battering ram at the door, the Tac Tool gives you a fistful of handy power. You can lift stubborn hinge pins, pry open doors and windows, quickly cut "550 cord", hammer glass out of the way, or use it as a knife. The blade is finished with a durable reinforced epoxy coat. The sheath is ambidextrous and is compatible with most tactical belts and LBE systems. The blade is made of 1095 Cro-van, which is like 1095 carbon - it is a low alloy carbon steel but with chrome and vanadium carbides…to provide extra strength and wear resistance.

KA-BAR ist ein legendärer amerikanischer Messerhersteller mit über hundertjähriger Geschichte. Die Marke ist als Waffenlieferant der US-Armee und als Hersteller von Messern für ein breites Anwendungsspektrum bekannt. Der Ursprung des Namens KA-BAR ist mit einer Legende verbunden. 1897 gründete eine Gruppe von Einwanderern aus Sheffield die Tidioute Cutlery Company, die später zur Union Cutlery Co. wurde. 1923 erhielt das Unternehmen einen Dankesbrief eines Jägers, der sich für ein hochwertiges Messer bedankte, das ihm das Leben gerettet hatte. Der Jäger wurde von einem Bären angegriffen, als sein Gewehr versagte. Er tötete den Bären schließlich mit einem Messer der Union Cutlery Co. Sein Dankesbrief war jedoch so unleserlich, dass man außer „KA“ und „BAR“ (für „killed a bear“) nichts anderes entziffern konnte. So war der neue Markenname geboren:

KA-BAR erlangte im Zweiten Weltkrieg weltweite Berühmtheit. 1942 entwickelte das Unternehmen das USMC Mark II (Kampf-/Allzweckmesser), das von der US-Armee übernommen wurde. Das Messer hatte eine etwa 18 cm lange Klinge und einen Ledergriff. Seine Zuverlässigkeit und Vielseitigkeit machten es beim Militär beliebt und es kam in zahlreichen Militäreinsätzen vom Zweiten Weltkrieg bis zu den Kriegen im Irak und in Afghanistan zum Einsatz.

Heute bietet KA-BAR eine breite Palette an taktischen und militärischen Messern an. Das Produktsortiment wurde um Klappmesser und Markenzubehör erweitert. KA-BAR verwendet für seine Messer hauptsächlich 1095 Cro-Van und D2-Kohlenstoffstahl. Zu den beliebtesten KA-BAR-Modellen gehören das USMC-Kampfmesser und die Becker BK-Serie für Outdoor-Aktivitäten.
