Una volta temprato, ha una durezza prossima a Rc 65 e produce una miscela di martensite ricca di carbonio con alcuni piccoli carburi non disciolti. L'eccesso di carburo aumenta la resistenza all'abrasione e consente all'acciaio di raggiungere un equilibrio ideale tra un'ottima tenacità della lama e una superiore capacità di tenuta del filo.
