È l'equivalente giapponese dell'americano 1080, un acciaio ad alto tenore di carbonio con una percentuale di carbonio compresa tra lo 0,75% e lo 0,85% e lo 0,60% e lo 0,90% di manganese. Una volta temprato, ha una durezza prossima a Rc 65 e produce una miscela di martensite ricca di carbonio con alcuni piccoli carburi non disciolti.
