Cold Steel Swords

Cold Steel swords are made with real-world use in mind: they are strong, sharp, and suitable for heavy training. The brand makes extensive use of high-carbon steel (such as 1055 or 1060) and hardens the construction with tempering, making their swords especially reliable. Among the most popular models are the Cold Steel Katana, Hand-and-a-Half Sword, and Two Handed Great Sword. Cold Steel's Katana is a reliable and relatively affordable alternative to Japanese blades, designed for real-world practice. The Hand-and-a-Half Sword is one of the most popular models in the world, thanks to its balance. And the Two Handed Great Sword is a massive sword that, as the name suggests, can only be held with two hands.

Training knife Cold Steel Hand and a Half Sword 86.4cm 92BKHNH
Hand and a Half Sword 92BKHNH is a very good practice sword from Cold Steel. Martial Artists have known a simple truth for ages. If your ultimate goal is to wield a sharp blade safely and effectively, you need to supplement your training with a tool that approximates the size, feel and heft of a blade, yet minimizes the possibility of causing grievous, permanent injury to yourself or your training partner. This concept was implemented by many cultures, including the ancient Romans, who used wooden swords to train their Gladiators. The only problem was that wooden training tools can rot, crack, chip or splinter and could not be used in all weather conditions. Cold Steels solution to these dilemmas was to design a line of synthetic polymer substitutes. Low in cost and unaffected by all but the most extreme temperatures, they are waterproof, weatherproof and astonishingly durable. Sword is 44" (112 cm) overall with 34" (86,4 cm) blade.

Cold Steel Norman Sword 76.2cm 88NOR
Cold Steel is pleased to offer you our version of the sword ancient Norman warriors used as they crossed the English Channel to conquer Britain at the battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D. Like the original swords we have studied, our replica offers a long, wide blade with twin fully sharpened edges and a broad point. To reduce weight, increase “hardiness”, and maximize eye appeal we have added a broad fuller in the middle of the blade. The hilt of Norman Sword has also seen equal attention featuring upturned, spatulated quillons, a leather-over-wood grip and a modified “cocked hat” pommel. This pommel shape was chosen because it allows greater articulation of the hand while counter balancing the long heavy blade. Weight about 1kg.

Cold Steel MAA Italian Long Sword 90cm 88ITSM
MAA Italian Long Sword by Cold Steel. The Man at Arms was a warrior, pure and simple. A stalwart and dependable fighter who exhibited great martial prowess with a range of weapons. He was a capable and competent warrior who was the veteran of many conflicts and was often first into the fray. Although he was not a Knight, he fought and trained alongside them as a brother in arms. To honor these rugged, reliable, salt-of-the-earth warriors we have created a range of true journeyman's weapons that we have called the Man at Arms Collection. Historically, the Long Sword featured a distinctive cruciform hilt and a long, double edged blade that was equally adept at opposing both light and heavily armored foes. Its extra-long blade offered the reach and leverage for powerful stabbing, cutting and chopping strokes while its long cross guard and heavy pommel were useful for hooking, striking and smashing. When heavy plate armor was encountered, strikes with the edge were often abandoned in favor of a “Half-Swording” technique; where one hand grips the hilt and the other the blade for grappling and in-fighting - to better direct the point in powerful jabs, and to accurately thrust at the small gaps and joints in a suit of armor. Cold Steel’s Italian Long Sword is designed so that the blade and balance slightly favor the thrust, while still being capable of delivering astonishingly effective cuts. It features a simple cruciform hilt, long upturned cross guard, leather-over-wood grip, and a heavy counter-balancing fish tail pommel. Scaled down in size but almost identical in appearance, our optional companion dagger is sharply tapered with a double edged blade. Ideal as an offhand parrying tool, a back-up blade or just as a fine dagger to wear on your belt! Weight 1390g.

Cold Steel Training sword O Bokken 82.9cm 92BKKD
The Bokken is made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real Katana in length, size, weight and feel. While they're not quite as rigid as wood, they have the advantages of being virtually unbreakable and remarkably stiff and cut resistant. Cold Steel Japanese Training Swords are closely modeled after the world-famous Warrior series swords. Featuring an intricately detailed imitation cord wrap grip - molded in high impact polypropylene - they offer superior grip and comfort as well as more realistic training potential for the modern Martial Artist. Hundreds of years ago, the Japanese discovered a simple truth; that to become a good swordsman you'll have to practice, a great deal. To become a great swordsman you'll have to practice with a "live blade". And during the period between "good" and "great", you should spend your time building your skills and confidence enough to wield a razor sharp Katana safely and effectively. To accomplish this, the Japanese relied on a simple wooden sword called a "bokken" for much of their training. It was made from the super tough wood of the Japanese White Oak, a wood they called Kashi. The swords produced from this wood had the advantage of replicating the size, weight and feel of a steel sword, while minimizing the possibility of causing grievous or permanent injury to those who used it. Authentic Kashi wood Bokkens are still used today, but are becoming quite costly. They also have the disadvantages, being made of wood, that they may rot, crack split or splinter. Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements.

Cold Steel focuses on the practicality and reliability of swords: as you know, their blades undergo rigorous tests for strength and cutting ability (there are many videos on the Cold Steel channel). There are two series of Cold Steel swords.

The Warrior Series from Cold Steel is created primarily for practical use. These swords are durable, but at the same time have a simpler finish. The blades in the Warrior Series have excellent hardening, impact resistance and sharpness, but they have less carefully polished blades and modest decorative finishing.

The Emperor Series is aimed at connoisseurs of aesthetics. Here, every detail is finished more exquisitely: the blades are carefully polished to a mirror shine, the handles are decorated with high-quality materials (leather, brass, valuable wood). In addition to functionality, Emperor swords have collectible value. If you need a sword for intensive training, real chopping and practice, the Warrior Series will be the ideal choice: reliability, affordable price, working appearance. If you care not only about efficiency, but also about aesthetics and collectible value, you should choose the Emperor Series.
