Frame Lock Knives

The Frame Lock was invented based on the Liner Lock by American designer Chris Reeve. Unlike the Liner Lock, which uses a separate internal plate, the Frame Lock uses part of the metal handle itself as a locking mechanism. This makes the design as strong and simple as possible.

Due to the fact that the load on the lock falls on the main frame of the handle, and not on the insert, the Frame Lock can withstand higher loads. It does not loosen over time, and is not afraid of dirt and dust. This lock is especially popular in the segment of premium tactical and EDC knives. Some brands, such as Zero Tolerance, Kizer, WE Knife, often use reinforced versions of the frame lock with special inserts.

The Zero Tolerance 0450CF, designed by Dmitry Sinkevich, is one of ZT’s top-selling knives. But some knife users have been asking for a little more—a little more size, a little more handle curve, a little more carbon fiber, a little more Sinkevich. ZT's answer? The new 0460. In size, it’s slightly larger than the 0450, but not as large as the 0452CF. The blade steel is CPM S35VN for enhanced toughness and resistance to edge chipping with no loss of wear resistance. Rich in niobium, vanadium, and chromium carbides, it enables a sharp, long-lasting edge. For sharp looks, ZT gives the blade a two-tone finish: stonewashed on the flats and satin on the grinds. Based on Dmitry’s Polychotky Jr., the 0460’s carbon-fiber-and-titanium handle has a pronounced ergonomic curve to fit into the hollow of the hand neatly. The front scale is bronze carbon fiber. This relatively recently developed composite material offers the benefits of carbon fiber, but with the ability to colorize the material as well—in the case of the 0460, the color is an attractive bronze. We partially 3D machined the front handle for dimensionality and grip as well. The handle back is titanium with a titanium frame lock and hardened steel lockbar insert. Although we have seen many of Böker's products over the years, resourceful knife makers continue to find ways to surprise us. For instance, Brad Zinker from Florida with his Urban Trapper, one of the thinnest profile titanium framelocks we have ever experienced. At a mere 8 mm grip thickness (without clip), the term "slim" only inadequately characterizes the Urban Trapper for its usable size. The large bores and titanium transform the Urban Trapper into a true lightweight at only 48 g that can be extremely conveniently carried in a suit pocket or light summer trousers alike. Considering the minimalist overall design of the knife, the size of the flipper is equally sparing. When used, it impresses nevertheless with its outstanding functionality, and reliably opens the ball bearing hinged VG-10 blade.
