Leuku is a traditional Lapland (Sami) knife. It is larger and wider than the Finnish puukko, as it was historically used for household work in the tundra zone. Therefore, it is also called a "camp" or "tundra" knife. A wide leuku blade usually has a length of 20 to 40 cm with a butt thickness of 3 to 7 mm. The handle of Lapland knives is large and wide - in order to keep it comfortably in mittens or gloves in cold conditions.
The leuku can be used as a outdoor, hunting or bushcraft knife. With its help, you can cut up small game on a hunt, prepare branches for a campfire on a hike or use as an auxiliary tool.
Leuku knives are made of both carbon and stainless steel. This knife is equipped with a sheath: leather or combined leather and horn. The Sami Leuku knife is a useful tool in the outdoor adventure, and a great gift. Modern models are often engraved with the image of deer, northern lights and other northern motifs and have beautiful scabbards with ethnic patterns.
