The name - Paracord 550 - comes from its ability to withstand a load of up to 550 pounds (about 250 kg).

Today, paracord 550 is an indispensable part of tourist, tactical and EDC gear. It is used to create lanyards, tent guy lines, weave fishing tackle, secure equipment and much more. Paracord 550 is durable due to its design. The outer braid of woven nylon fiber hides 7 inner threads, each of which can be used separately.

Despite its strength, paracord 550 is not intended for lifting people or mountaineering belay. It also cannot be used to hang loads that weigh more than 250 kg. Also, paracord 550 is not suitable for use in an aggressive chemical environment and temperatures above 200 degrees Celsius.
