Description

The Ontario TAK 1 is a solid full tang survival knife with a blade made from 1075 carbon steel. The extremely sustainable powder coating on the blade protects it from the increased corrosion sensitivity of the carbon steel. Enhanced with a micarta handle. A knife that is large enough to work with and is also compact enough to comfortably carry with you. The back of the knife has a large hole for a lanyard. The Ontario TAK 1 comes with a MOLLE compatible black nylon sheath.

Good value for the money. Quality was okay to good. Handle scales were not flush with the tang, they are about 0.5 mm raised all around so needs to be ground or sand papered down. Blade was not sharp at all out of the box, not good for a knife of this price range (in fact this is the only knife that i have bought that was so badly sharpened from the factory). That said, it only took about 20 mins to get it to paper slicing sharp (instead of original butter knife sharp).

The beginnings of the Ontario Knife Company are shrouded in the mystery of a fading past. It seems certain that three men – William B. Ensworth, Charles Albert Brace and William Maudsley, were in the picture from the start at Naples, New York, in 1889. The name of the Company derived from Ontario County where Naples was situated. Around 1902 a move was made from Cadiz to Franklinville as the company kept growing and again more space and more power was needed. This would be Ontario Knife's current location. Also, on August 12, 1902 the company was incorporated and retained the Ontario Knife Company name.
