The 498 Marine Combat Knife from Ontario Knife is issued and used exclusively by the United States Marine Corps. Situated in New York State's scenic Southern Tier, Ontario Knife Company produces one of the most comprehensive, wide-ranging product lines in the cutlery industry today. While being a worldwide supplier, the Ontario Knife Company is also a major supplier to the US Government and its military. Ontario has built its reputation on a heritage of uncompromising craftsmanship, quality materials and components, and a steadfast commitment to its workforce. The 498 Marine Combat Knife features sharpened clip point blade, swedge and blood grooves in a non-reflective black zinc phosphate finish. The blade is hardened to 55-58 HRC. The handle is made from weather-proofed black leather. Includes a steel butt cap and black leather sheath.
Ontario Knife Company (OKC) is one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States. Founded in 1889 in Naples, New York, the company got its name from Ontario County. In the early 20th century, production was moved to Franklinville, where OKC was located for over 100 years.
In August 2023, OKC was acquired by Blue Ridge Knives, after which it was announced that the historic Franklinville plant would close. Despite this, many key models continue to be produced and available on the market. Please note that the company logo has slightly changed on some models.
