Shiro Kamo is one of the most renowned Japanese smiths today. He specializes in high-quality traditional kitchen knives. He was awarded the prestigious "Dento-kogeshi" (Master of Traditional Crafts) title at a very young age (47) compared to other Japanese smiths. All knife-making operations—forging, grinding, and assembly—are performed by the master himself.
Shiro Kamo makes his knives in Takefu Knife Village. Takefu is a legendary Japanese knife-making center, where artisans have been forging traditional knives by hand for over 700 years. Shiro Kamo played a key role in the founding and development of this center and currently serves as president of Takefu Knife Village.
Shiro Kamo works with a variety of materials, including carbon steels (such as Aogami Super, Aogami #2, and Shirogami #2) and modern powder steels (SG2 and VG-10). Master Shiro Kamo not only continues his own work but also actively trains the younger generation of blacksmiths, passing on his knowledge. In particular, his apprentice is the renowned blacksmith Shigeki Tanaka, whose knives you can also purchase in our store.
