Folding knives appeared more than two thousand years ago. A pocket knife is often much more convenient and practical than a fixed blade knife. Today, folding knives vary greatly in functionality. Blade types of folding knives
There are several popular blade profile types for folding knives. Drop Point, from the English word “drop”, is one of the most common blade profiles. It features a spine that slopes down towards the tip. The Clip Point profile is similar to Drop Point, but the upper part of the spine is cut with a straight line closer to the tip. This profile is also versatile. The Spear Point blade type, as the name suggests, has a spear-like shape. In recent years, pocket knives with a “tanto” blade profile have also become popular. A less common example is Wharncliffe Point — a blade with a straight edge and a spine curved towards it. This blade is suitable, for example, for precise straight cuts, carving, opening packages or letters. Sheepfoot is a blade shape named after a sheep’s hoof. Such a knife does not have a piercing tip, which makes it safer.
Folding knife locks: types and features
In our store, you can buy folding knives with various locking mechanisms. Slip joint is the simplest type of lock. It is structurally simple, thin, and allows multi-blade or multi-tool knife designs. It is reliable but not very strong, as the locking force is provided only by spring tension. Therefore, knives with this lock are not suitable for heavy-duty tasks. Backlock is essentially derived from SlipJoint and is based on a lever. The handle spine is equipped with a spring-loaded lever (usually in the middle or rear), which must be pressed to close or open the knife. Liner lock is one of the most commonly used mechanisms. A liner — a metal plate — locks against the tang when the blade is opened. Frame lock works on the same principle, but the locking element is part of the handle. The main advantage of these locks is high reliability. You can also buy folding knives with locks such as button lock, tri-ad lock, compression lock, viroblock, axis lock and others.
