Yu Kurosaki

Yu Kurosaki (黒崎 優) is one of the most famous and popular modern Japanese smiths. He has received numerous awards for his kitchen knives. Yu Kurosaki began making knives as a teenager. From the age of 23, he was an apprentice to the famous master Hiroshi Kato.

In 2014, Kurosaki opened his own workshop. His unique knife-making skills combined with an innovative approach have earned him recognition both in Japan and abroad. Yu Kurosaki's workshop is located in the city of Echizen, a historical center of knife production. Yu Kurosaki is especially distinguished by his mastery of Tsuchime finishing. This is the art of hand-chasing patterns on a soft facing to enhance the aesthetic value of the blade. This painstaking process is often found in Japanese art and craft and requires a high level of skill and concentration.

Each series of Yu Kurosaki knives: Fujin, Senko or Shizuku has its own unique Tsuchime pattern. Please note that master Kurosaki uses different handles for his collections from batch to batch. This means that the same series of knives made at different times may have different handles.
