Choosing a new knife for kitchen, pay attention on steel and handle materials. Choosing between Japanese and European kitchen knife, remember that Japanese knives are lighter in weight, and also have an another  sharpening angle. If the cook knife can be washed in the dishwasher, this will be written on the product packaging. However, we do not recommend washing any knives in the dishwasher, as this makes them blunt, and the handle material gets damages.

Folding & Pocket Knives

A knife has been an essential tool in everyday life since ancient times. Folding knives appeared over two thousand years ago. Often, a pocket knife is much more convenient and practical than a knife with a fixed blade. Today, folding knives vary greatly in functionality.

Types of folding knives

Depending on your needs, you can choose a folding knife with a serrated blade, a rescue knife, an elegant pocket knife, a trapper, or a balisong. All these types are very famous and can be used as utility knife. There are also special types of pocket knives like folding karambit knife or traditional Japanese folding knife. There are several popular types of blade profiles for folding knives. Drop Point, derived from the English word "drop," is one of the most common blade profiles. It has a descending blade line towards the tip. The Clip Point profile is similar to Drop Point, but the upper part of the blade is cut straight closer to the tip. This profile is also versatile. The Spear Point blade, as the name suggests, has a spear-like shape. In recent years, pocket knives with a "tanto" blade profile have also become popular. Another less common type is the Wharncliffe Point – a blade with a straight edge and a curved spine. This type of blade is suitable for precise straight cuts, making it convenient for carving, opening packages, or letters. The Sheepfoot blade, named for its resemblance to a sheep's hoof, lacks a piercing point, making it safe.

Locking mechanisms on folding knives

In our store, you can buy folding knives with various locking mechanisms. Slip joint is the simplest type of lock. This lock is structurally simple, has a small thickness, and allows for the creation of multi-blade or multi-tool knife designs. It is a reliable but not very durable locking mechanism (it relies solely on spring resistance). Therefore, knives with this type of lock are not suitable for heavy-duty work. Backlock is essentially derived from SlipJoint. This lock is lever-based, with a spring-loaded lever on the back of the handle that needs to be pressed to fold or unfold the knife. Liner lock is one of the most commonly used mechanisms. A liner plate is used as the locking mechanism, pressing against the blade tang when opened. Frame lock operates on the same principle, but the locking part is a section of the handle. The advantages of these locks include high reliability. In our store, you can also buy folding knives with various lock types: button lock, tri-ad lock, compression lock, viroblock, axis lock, and others. The lock type is specified in the technical specifications on the page of each product.

Most folding knives come with a pocket clip for convenient carrying. Usually, a sheath is not included with a folding knife, but you can purchase one separately in the corresponding section of our store.

Shaving

Our selection or razors includes straight razors, safety razors, strops, mugs, brushes, blades and more. Razors have been identified from many Bronze Age cultures. These were made of bronze or obsidian and were generally oval in shape, with a small tang protruding from one of the short ends. Straight razors with open steel blades, also commonly known as cut-throats, were the most commonly used razors before the 20th century. The first safety razor protected the skin from all but the very edge of the blade and was invented in 1762 by a Frenchman, Jean-Jacques Perret, who was inspired by the joiner's plane. Perret's design was essentially a straight razor with its blade surrounded by a wooden sleeve.

Sharpening

Even a knife made of the best steel always requires proper sharpening. In our range you will find tools for sharpening already blunted knives, as well as for constantly maintaining the working condition of the cutting edge. The frequency of sharpening depends on how often you use the knife, as well as on the properties of the steel. For example, carbon steel knives keep sharpening longer. When choosing sharpening tools, pay attention to the sharpening angle. So, standard European sharpeners are not suitable for Japanese knives, since the sharpening angle of Japanese knives is less and is about 15 degrees, while European knives are 20 degrees. For sharpening Japanese knives, we recommend using sharpeners from Japanese manufacturers, whetstones or musats. Musats are also the optimal universal sharpening tool for any knives.
